Skylum has just released Luminar Neo, the latest version of its photo editing app. One of the signature new features is Relight AI, which promises to use AI to analyze a photo and determine which areas are “near” and “far.” Now that the software is available, I took Relight AI for a spin and wrote about it in my latest Smarter Image column at PopPhoto.com: The promise and difficulty of AI-enhanced editing.
Like Luminar AI before it, Neo is based around machine-learning technology. Skylum has said that Neo is an entirely new program, not an update to Luminar AI, which was also a ground-up redevelopment of Luminar and is still being sold. (I wrote about the versions when my book The Photographer’s Guide to Luminar AI was released.)
In the column, I looked only at Relight AI, not at Luminar Neo as a whole, which I’d say is currently underbaked. But it’s an interesting look at where AI-assisted editing is heading.
I’m curious, do you use any of the Luminar apps? Have you played with Neo yet? Reply and let me know your impressions.
